Born in Brussels in 1915, René Berger holds a doctorate from the University of Paris (Sorbonne), and is Honorary Professor at the University of Lausanne, former curator and director of the Musée des Beaux Arts in Luasanne, Honorary President of the International Association of Art Critics (AICA) and the International Association for Video in the Arts and Culture (AIVAC), founder of the cultural movement Pour lArt. Founder member of the Board of Directors of CIRET. Member of the Kuratorium of the Zentrum für Kunst un Medientechnologie (Karlsruhe). He has published several books, including Découverte de la peinture, Connaissance de la peinture, Art e communication, La mutation des signes, La téléfissoin: alerte à la television, Leffet des changements technologiques, Art et Technologie, Jusquoù ira votre ordinateur? Limagijnaire Programmé! and Téléovision, le nouveau Gtolem. A lecturer and radio and television producer, his series entitled Connaissance de la peinture had 13 episodes broadcast in more than 25 countries. He takes part regularly in seminars and conferences and sits on various international panels. He has awarded a number of honours from bodies including UNESCO and the Council of Europe. His current research is centred on new technologies and their relations with contemporary technoculture. |
