OBJECTOS CRUZADOS
SELECTION AND DISPLACEMENT OF EVERYDAY OBJECTS

This new EXD project for Intercasa proposes that designers and cultural commentators re-interpret and stage objects coming from Portuguese industrial production.

Side by side, we suddenly discover the traditional logic of commercial presentations and the contemporary art practice. Propelled by artistic impulse and critical commentary, dislocation of meaning of everyday objects becomes an ironic experience or an acute critique of the tastes and logics of industrial production. The assumptions that condition this output's audience and consumption are put into question. Moreover, the active role of artist and critic before a given reality is radically assumed.

Strategies may range from using a concrete hystorical reference, be it real or fictional, to stressing the conflicts of images and representations within the domestic universe or the cultural and social transactions happening in the fair.

The juxtaposition of a set number of interventions occurs in a compulsive labyrinth that turns the experience of commercial anticipation into a more complex cultural game.
An ant-like visual lab that vaguely suggests scientific TV series turns visitors into actors of the fictional uses and scenarios created for these ordinary objects.

O MEU CORPO CENTRÍFUGO
Cristina Mateus conflates the iconographic flux that pours out of our computers and TV screens with the passing images that mirrors give us back.

João Pedro Vale
Sandra Vieira Jürgens

SPLENDOR
João Pedro Vale prefers to stage micro-performances in which chosen objects serve an unexpected service and universe and thus offer a social critique of the trade fair...

Miguel Rondon

Untitled
Miguel Rondon creates a transportable domestic container where an abundant selection of "essential" objects deludes the most invisible dimension of experiencing a house.

Paulo Mendes

HOMEBODY. THE WITTGENSTEIN HOUSE
Paulo Mendes recurs to Wittgenstein's archetypical house as an empty, abstract and minimally infrastructured space, ready to receive a banal catalogue of decorative objects.

PLAY TIME MODO DE USAR
Leonor Antunes's rooms evoke two precise scenes from Jacques Tati's Playtime, thus offering commentary on the exhibition's display and objects.
