ExperimentaDesign Lisboa/Amsterdam is the international Biennale dedicated to design, architecture and creativity. Positioning itself as a forward-thinking, inspiration-driven organization, ExperimentaDesign analyses and fosters contemporary cultural practices with a keen eye to research and experimentation.
Reflecting on aesthetics, ethics, social cohesion, industry, sustainability and economy, the Biennale generates and showcases original projects, concepts and ideas in different formats, centered around a theme. It takes place in Lisbon (since 1999) and Amsterdam (since 2008) in alternating years with different programs. Operating a worldwide network of partnerships and collaborations, the Biennale develops strategic synergies between cultural agents and institutions from a wide variety of fields, in the form of co-productions and laboratories.
With a focus on people and ideas, more than products and markets, the Biennale’s program is designed to provide insight and incentive, both to specialized and professional audiences and to a wider audience less familiar with the discourses of design.
Plural and inclusive, ExperimentaDesign is a dynamic platform that celebrates and promotes transdisciplinarity, critical thinking and creative work on all levels, while seeking to involve a growing number of people in the on-going debate on contemporary culture and its role in sustained development.
