VENUE info:
The Sociedade Nacional de Belas-Artes (SNBA) was founded in 1901 with the goal of promoting the development of the arts and of national artists. Designed from scratch for the SNBA, the centenary headquarters’ building is a privileged space for artistic venues, one of the main guidelines of the SNBA’s mission. In 1965 the SNBA established the first Design course in Portugal. At the headquarters, alongside the teaching of artistic subjects, the Sociedade has also held several activities: exhibitions, lectures, conferences and the educational encouragement through art. It integrates a specialised library for researchers and students, which comprises a catalogue archive dated from the end of the 19th century and includes editions of the SNBA. These cover varied genres such as watercolor, photography (the first exhibitions in Portugal were organised by SNBA), as well as caricature and humoristic drawing.

In this gallery you can see how we experienced Lisboa from 15th – 18th July.

We had a nice and patient escort who showed us the interesting spots around Experimenta and in the city of Lisboa.

We saw 3 sunsets in 3 days, we drank good Portuguese beer, had good food and rode a pedal go cart.

So, we have to thank all the people we got to know from the Experimenta. We had a really nice and productive time.

Lapse time

A few short impressions of my trips to Isreal, London, New York and Amsterdam .

Part 1

To see the studio of Tal Gur we crossed the desert to the Jordan valley, “mudded” in the Dead Sea and talked about design concepts in his kibbuz workshop on 46 degrees C, surrounded by mesh chairs, various urea materials, converted plastic bags, bamboo sticks, handmade rotation moulds and a noisy compressor who made a new design object “breathing”.

In front of all the recent political circumstances, visualizing the threatening concrete wall, driving through corridors, passing check points, we enjoyed the open communication and the mutual appreciation.

The work of Tal Gur will enrich the exhibition concept.

Tal Gur from Israel will become part of the show LAPSE IN TIME. A nearly unknown brave designer who touches new materials and alternative project thoughts for design projects beyond normal standards. It will be my next trip in May to see his studio and decide about his contribution for the exhibition in Lisboa.

SOUVENIRS OF CHINA

Two weeks excursion with students in China.

Again a time change, a physical but also a cultural one. A “Lapse in Time” in definite. Within one day we plunged into a new world of images, noice and smell.

I organized a one week workshop project “Souvenirs of China” with 45 students from Germany and China searching for a new way of souvenir interpretation with less stereotypes, and kitschy repetitions. By mixing the diversified ethnics we reached more complexity and polarisation in communication and execution. Both factors led to controversial results and raised the “limit of pain”.
