Luanda: Emergent Megalopolis

Luanda ranks as the 15th fastest growing city on the planet. In the aftermath of a long period of post-colonial warfare, the capital of Angola – one of Africa’s richest countries in natural resources – is undergoing a period of profound transformation fuelled by a construction boom and incoming population fluxes. It is an Emergent Megalopolis, where new forms of creativity are bound to arise out of the tensions and conflicts that underlie a redefining material reality.

Launching the documentary on Luanda on the last day of the Opening Week, this debate led by Pedro Gadanho and guests features a projection of “work-in-progress” images.

This is the first documentary of the ongoing series Emergent Megalopolis, curated by Pedro Gadanho.
