Sagmeister & Walsh
The renowned communication design studio Sagmeister & Walsh will bring their characteristic wit and creativity to the City Cortex programme.
Sagmeister & Walsh is a communication design studio based in New York, known for developing original and irreverent work for diverse brands and clients. Led by Stefan Sagmeister, the enfant terrible of graphic design, and Jessica Walsh, a prodigious young designer with an internationally recognized body of work, the studio has won several design awards and their work has been presented in exhibitions throughout the US, Europe and Asia.
Since the start of their partnership in 2012, Stefan Sagmeister and Jessica Walsh have been working for clients as diverse as Levis, Snapchat, Vitra, the New York Times and Jay-Z. Both designers also work on individual projects, in which they seek to explore new ideas not only in the field of graphic design, but also concerning broader themes of everyday life. Stefan Sagmeister’s The Happy Show, which remains the most visited graphic design exhibition in the world, is an example of this, as is Jessica Walsh’s 40 Days of Dating experiment, which ended up being adapted into a movie. Stefan Sagmeister was also responsible for the acclaimed packaging of Everything that Happens Will Happen Today, and Jessica Walsh founded Ladies, Wine & Design, an initiative that spread throughout 200 cities across the globe.
In June 2019, the studio announced they would be restructuring. Sagmeister & Walsh has been divided into Sagmeister Inc. (for more exploratory, artistic projects) and &Walsh (for commercial-driven work). Both realities are however still marked by an avant-garde and surprising attitude.
The City Cortex programme will receive projects conceived by both designers as Sagmeister & Walsh. Their proposals for the urban space of New York will be presented in Manhattan in 2020. Find out more about one of the most notable graphic design partnerships in the world on the City Cortex website.
