Philippe Starck
Acclaimed creator Philippe Starck will participate in the City Cortex by Amorim programme.
Known for designing pieces as inescapable as the Juicy Salif Lemon Squeezer, the famous Louis Ghost chair or revolutionary mega yachts, Philippe Starck is without a doubt one of the most relevant creators of our time.
Starck is a central figure of the idea of “design for all”, as well as an irreverent explorer of the limits surrounding this universe. His multidisciplinary work, comprising projects in areas as diverse as product design, architecture, naval and space engineering, is continuously marked by a sense of democratization and a strong component of sustainability.
In each project, Starck prioritizes the defense of equality, the understanding of the great mutations of our era, the excitement for new ideas and the fight for a fairer planet. Broom, an entirely natural chair, and the prefab accessible technological and ecological homes PATH, are examples of this.
Throughout his career, Philippe Starck has conceived a variety of projects encompassing different scales, including the Venus yacht for Steve Jobs, the Mi MIX (2s) Xiaomi smartphone, his own collection of perfumes STARCK PARIS, Maison Heler, an “out-of-scale” phantasmagoric architecture in the city of Metz and a habitation module for private space tourism in collaboration with Axiom, among many others. This creative versatility and sense of innovation continues to characterize the already long career of this creator, who was born in Paris in 1949 and has been living in Portugal since 2013.
In the context of the City Cortex by Amorim programme, Philippe Starck will conceive urban intervention pieces for the city of New York using Portuguese cork. The final results of this creative process will be presented in Manhattan in 2020. Find out more about the author on the programme’s website!
