In SuperSúber, the material itself has no borders. A border is the demarcation of a territory, the definition of a space, the limit of a body. To process a material is to mark upon it the identifying tattoo of a border; it is the superimposition of a reality on the material. The furniture created for the edition SuperSúber, is made entirely from virgin cork. Besides the recognized reputation of cork as an inimitable and renewable resource, it is precisely the respect and admiration for cork’s original and primary freedom that this body of work reveals.

Paradoxically, cork is profoundly territorial. Portugal is, for the time being, the principle global exporter of cork. SuperSúber presents us the “material without borders”: pure, virgin cork in its raw form, without any chemical or industrial adulteration. These pieces surge forth from the absence of transformation, before any and all man-made processes, the cork exalted as the skin of a tree.
