What is there that is not mappable? How do we measure ideas? Emotions? Values? Meaning? We have become used to mapping the physical space and regarding cartography as an empirical translation of geographical sites, and sometimes we forget that the feeling of “accuracy” they provide, doesn’t strictly rely on their rational “literality”, but depends on many other influential factors such as psicogeographical, cultural, social and political constraints. One place, many maps - how many truths? To assume cartography as an expression of subjectivity will be the foundation for this activity. We will ask participants to engage in rethinking their experiences of the Tropical Botanical Garden, suggesting unorthodox metric systems and unusual measurement.

Possessing the ability to see what everyone can see and think what no one else thinks is one of the central factors of innovation. Unblocking the sensorial and sensitive apparatus can signify opening the windows that can take us to more creative applications. In this laboratory, participants have the opportunity to explore the properties of cork, to understand its origins and processes of transformation, and to be confronted with some of the questions that this material generates. Challenging participants to rethink the materials that surround us, using the cork industry as an example.

“Gazing at the sky” has always been and will always be a natural human predisposition. From premonitions, predictions and omens, to the most objective and probative answers, we have always looked up in search of a missing sense of meaning. With the progress of science, it has become ever so necessary to incessantly reinvent the “unknown”. In this activity we open the debate: What guides us in this process of aesthetic drift through the celestial screen? What project may constitute the design of a constellation? Considering that design lives through the prediction of constraints, (environmental, technological, political, behavioural and of consumption habits) what social and cultural patterns can this exercise predict for the future and leave as a legacy?

In this activity we analyse the communication strategies of the cultural events that make up the IDENTITY exhibition, reflecting on the characteristics that distinguish them from each other. We want to stimulate thought around the signs associated with the expression of a cultural identity, challenging participants to translate a concept through non-textual tools and appealing to the awareness of the means that we use to attribute meaning to what surrounds us.

Within this workshop we start from books that have already been read by many so that we may give them a new binding, this time with a cover coated with fabric. Thus, the participants draw new paths for the books they bring with them, giving continuity to a circuit initiated beforehand.

Fashion is a response to the basic needs of human beings. In this current economy focussed on exponential growth, fashion lives from obsolescence and the ephemeral. However, the new era of sustainability brings the emergence of an inversed creative process: starting from the necessities of the consumer to create fashion, instead of creating fashion to impel the consumer to buy. This workshop invites its participants to adopt a new way of looking at the fashion consumer – based on dialogue, observation and empathy – and to practice a new method of creation that is conducive to the conception of innovative fashion products and businesses.
