Over the centuries, the people of Portugal opened themselves to other identities and cultures, internalizing them. As a consequence, these other peoples demonstrated the same permeability, accepting and integrating elements of Portuguese culture (language, condiments, practices, etc.) into their own cultures. It is a characteristic that differentiates national identity and the ability to establish relationships and create affinities, thus eliminating borders.
