For experimentadesign, whose main territory is design and design culture, the ties with other forms of creative, cultural and scientific expression is at the heart of the association’s work since its inception in 1998. This exhibition signals the start of a programme series under the generic title “Display:”, which invites a number of cultural agents - both Portuguese and foreign - from different creative areas, to address a given thematic challenge.

experimentadesign promotes social design competition in 22 schools in Portugal, in a joint project with the UK
Action for Age 2 was launched on November 5, in the Main Auditorium of Faculdade de Bela Artes de Lisboa (Fine Arts’ Faculty of Lisbon University), before an audience of nearly 400 students and 38 lecturers from 22 Portuguese schools. After a promising fisrt edition – whose results were featured in the Biennale EXD’09 – the second edition of this creative lab challenges design and architecture students and young graduates to develop proposals that stimulate active and positive intergenerational relationships as a means of fighting loneliness and social isolation among the elderly.

With an extended work schedule, whereby the brief is developed as part of the curricular coursework of the participating schools, Action for Age 2 also puts a greater emphasis on the implementation phase, with the selection of 12 proposals to be put into practice on a pilot project basis.

An initiative and original brief of RSA – Royal Society for the Encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce, from the UK, Action for Age was organized in 2009 in partnership with experimentadesign and Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian, which are joined in 2010/11 by Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Lisboa.
