THE FIRST STONE PROGRAMME CELEBRATES ITS COMPLETION WITH THE PRESENTATION OF 3 DOCUMENTARIES AND 3 APPS Spanning two years and involving 23 of the most internationally renowned designers and architects, the First Stone programme now reaches its final stages with the presentation of its last outputs. The accomplishment of this widespread programme, promoted by Assimagra, is celebrated with the launch of 3 documentaries and 3 apps, created by experimentadesign in partnership with ALTA_International Creative Alliance. These new elements comprise an exploration of the programme’s context, the conception of its projects, the production of some of the 54 pieces crafted from Portuguese stone and their various international presentations.  DOCUMENTARIES In partnership with the Portuguese television network RTP, the First Stone programme created 3 documentaries about the different projects it originated. With the objective of revealing the various aspects of the life of this raw-material, the films cover its existence in nature, its extraction, and finally its transformation, presented in the context of innovative ideas and the development of specific projects. Each documentary follows one of the three main projects of the programme, including their international presentations, which took place between 2016 and 2017: RESISTANCE brought together a group of 10 architecture ateliers and was presented during the 2016 Venice Architecture Biennale, and at the Vitra Campus in Weil am Rhein during Art Basel 2017. Álvaro Siza (PT), Amanda Levete (GB), Bijoy Jain (IN), Eduardo Souto de Moura (PT), ELEMENTAL (CL), João Luís Carrilho da Graça (PT), Mia Hägg (SE), Paulo David (PT), Studio mk27 (BR), Vladimir Djurovic (LB) STILL MOTION involved 6 graphic design studios in an exhibition at La Triennale de Milano during MIART and the Salone del Mobile di Milano in 2017. Ian Anderson (GB), Jonathan Barnbrook (GB), Jorge Silva (PT), Pedro Falcão (PT), Peter Saville (GB), Sagmeister & Walsh (US) COMMON SENSE presented the work of 8 product design studios in two exhibitions in São Paulo, one at the Lina Bo Bardi Glass House and another at MADE. APPS The First Stone programme also celebrates its conclusion with the release of three free apps, which are already available for IOS and will soon also be available for Android. These apps are an additional functional element to the programme’s website, focussing on different aspects of its accomplishment: one about the First Stone programme and the research projects it developed; another of a more informative nature about Portuguese stone; and another that includes stories and interesting facts about stone in Portugal. More appealing and entertaining in terms of navigation, visualization and the manipulation of information and interactivity, these digital apps represent a more efficient way of communicating and disseminating the scope and content of this programme to all those who may be interested: industry, practitioners, clients and the general public.
