INÊS NEPOMUCENO
When an invitation delineates an intervention in a window, the first thought falls upon that same window and its relationship with the theme. The absence of borders (No Borders) is put into question by the inherent limitations of said window.
One of the texts alludes to the history of media, and to the beginning of the drawing of borders, potentiated by maritime discoveries - taken from “Operating Manual For Spaceship Earth” by Buckminster Fuller. The second text alludes to the wreck of a ship that transported almost 500 passengers and that caught fire, on the 3rd of October, near Lampedusa, in Sicily, southern Italy. The ship transported refugees of African origin looking for a better life.
The theme “No Borders” is illustrated in the ambiguity that characterizes it in this contemporary era and the questioning of the openness of borders. In the context of Design practice, we are opening space for confrontation and interdisciplinary discussion. Are we in fact opening geographical borders, or are we steering towards a new kind of limitation?
