Mass production has introduced in our social rituals and conscience objects without any trace of a geographical or cultural territory. How do we maintain local identity in everyday objects? The typical Portuguese clay olive dish has become a mass product and exemplifies an object (and corresponding habit) that has transcended its handcrafted past to become industrialized.
