ORDEM DOS ARQUITECTOS

The institutional support of Ordem dos Arquitectos (OA) to Peter Zumthor: Buildings and Projects 1986-2007, an ExperimentaDesign Lisboa 2009 initiative, arises firstly from the prominence achieved by this Swiss author’s work in the international architecture scene, and the relevance of the initiative itself in the Portuguese context, surely one of the most significant to take place this year. Secondly, it arises from OA’s desired openness to civil society, occasioning the protocol between OA and ExperimentaDesign, with a view to strengthening ties and a joint participation in activities in the fields of architecture and design. A new pathway thus opens, one that will prove not only encouraging for creative practitioners but also relevant to the panorama of creative cities and new ways to engage its citizens.

LX FACTORY

The Lisbonense textile and weaving mill was one of the Lisbon’s leading factory complexes. Built in the 1840’s and 50’s, it was one of the first in Portugal to adopt the construction model typical of cast-iron architecture.

Large cities today are in great need of disciple-intersecting, mutable spaces that are in sync with the city’s inner dynamics and pace, spaces that are in sync with real time (what is happening, today, tomorrow).

At once a substantial venue (a set of industrial buildings) where different companies will be developing their ideas, LXFactory will operate as a vast and permeable network of ideas in transit, experiences and, more importantly, of individuals focused on themselves, on others.*
In LXF, this synchronization of individuals, ideas and experiences will happen naturally.

In LXFactory, with every step you take, you inhabit the industrial atmosphere.
An empty box is the departure point for a synergy of ideas, interventions, mutations where each individual appropriates its own space in the progress. Space for work, for concentration, for research. A factory of experiences where it becomes possible to intervene, think, produce, present ideas and products in a place that belongs to everyone and exists for everyone.
