EXPERIMENTADESIGN 2007 THINK TANK
Curatorial Meeting in Lisbon anticipates ExperimentaDesign2007

On April 22 and 23 Experimenta held a Think Tank for the purpose of developing the theme that will serve as departure point for the research and planning leading up to ExperimentaDesign2007 – Bienal de Lisboa. This meeting was held in Palácio Santa Catarina, courtesy of the Lisbon Town Hall.
Contrary to what happened in the 2005 Biennale, also preceded by an international Think Tank in March 2004 in the Portuguese capital, only a few curators and practitioners took part in this year's preparatory curatorial meeting. The meeting last April was attended by Max Bruinsma, Ed Annink and Hans Maier-Aichen, who have in-depth knowledge of EXD and have all participated in previous editions.

Established by the current curatorial direction of ExperimentaDesign, this new format for curatorial meetings with small discussion groups will be a regular and frequent feature of the Experimenta calendar until late August 2006, when the theme and main programme of ExperimentaDesign2007 will be announced.

EXD: SUCCESSFUL CASE STUDY
Experimentadesign – Bienal de Lisboa featured as example in Glasgow.

Guta Moura Guedes, Chair of Experimenta, traveled to Glasgow on the 24th and 25th of April to take part in the International Think Tank for the "6 Cities Design Festival", a new Scottish design event. Invited by Stuart Macdonald, director of the LightHouse - Scotland’s Centre for Architecture and Design and head of this project, Guta Moura Guedes presented ExperimentaDesign-Bienal de Lisboa as a successful case study – an event dedicated to design which fits in and identifies with its host city and increases the visibility of culture in its country.

"Six Cities Design Festival" is an initiative by the Scottish Executive aimed at raising design in Scotland to international prominence, similarly to the role EXD-Bienal de Lisboa has played in Portugal. "Six Cities Design Festival" will run for 3 weeks in the cities of Glasgow, Edinburgh, Aberdeen, Dundee, Stirling and Inverness. It will debut in the Spring of 2007, in the same year as the 5th edition of ExperimentaDesign-Bienal de Lisboa.
