Brave Worlds is an art project that places five flags on flagpoles in or on existing buildings and that then aggregates them in an exhibition, forming the initial presentation of an on-going project.

In this first phase, the flags will be created by the artist as a result of research into actual utopian movements and communities, before being placed in or on public buildings.

Those utopias exist or existed not just as desired utopias, in the sense of what Thomas Moore stated in his 1516 text, Utopia (that is as ideal nation states or alternative futures) but as actualisations of desires. In the second phase the flags and documentation of spatial interventions are shown at 22Atelier, integrating a series of activities that materialise, question and celebrate utopias.

This work is gesture, research and material. It appropriates public spaces and utilises colour and fabric. It is part of research on utopias and a materialization of hopes and dreams.
