TYPE STUDIES 2013 brings classrooms to the exhibition space revealing the academic working material to the general public and, with it, the relationship between university and contemporaneity. Specifically it refers to the course in Typographic Studies in the Design and Visual Culture Masters Course from IADE – Creative University. It aims to be a set of exercises seeking a more acute apprenticeship over the universe of typographic elements. It enhances theory, practice, experimentation and error in essays of calligraphy, limits, shape and counter shape, patterns, expressivity, monograms, hierarchy and the original alphabet.

Besides the typographic component, the theme enhances the graphic design universe and it explores visual design and its new realities of complex and accelerated mutation. It comes with a sustainable concept because in its production classroom test prints were used, reusing part of the produced visual matter, diminishing the resources necessary for its realization.

The Workshop is about screen printing production and it´s the result of a partnership between IADE and CPS, Portuguese Centre of Screen Printing. The goal is the exploration of traditional printing techniques using the type as a starting point.
